Better Data, Bigger Impact: How Goodwill Industries International Uses CaseWorthy to Prove What Works
Goodwill Industries International (GII) replaced a nearly 20-year-old, self-managed homegrown system with CaseWorthy to standardize grant reporting and support local Goodwill organizations across the US and Canada in workforce development, adult day services, and supported employment. CaseWorthy’s flexibility lets each organization configure the system to fit its own processes and funder requirements, while digital intake, e-signatures, automatic data capture, built-in reporting, and a client portal have cut paperwork significantly.
What you’ll hear about:
- How CaseWorthy’s flexibility lets each local Goodwill organization configure the system to match its own processes and funder requirements
- How CaseWorthy cut the time and paperwork burden of a traditionally lengthy enrollment process
- How automatic data capture and built-in reporting replaced manual paper-and-Excel tracking, giving local teams faster, more reliable access to real-time data
- How improved data quality and reporting speed have strengthened funder confidence, supported grant-seeking, and given GII clearer visibility into community impact across the network

My name is Kristen Brown. I work for Goodwill Industries International. I am the director and our technical product owner for CaseWorthy.
So, with Goodwill Industries International, or GII, we use CaseWorthy to record and report grant data, mostly relevant to workforce development. Additionally, GII supports local Goodwill organizations across the United States and Canada, and they use CaseWorthy for a multitude of program areas, including, but not limited to, workforce development, adult day services, and supported employment.
Prior to CaseWorthy, we were using a homegrown system. It was nearly 20 years old. It was self-managed, and as a result, was really difficult to update and to maintain. CaseWorthy has allowed us to better define our metrics and offer Goodwill organizations the ability to have a system which meets their needs and the needs of their grants and funding sources. CaseWorthy is extremely customizable and allows our members to do their work in a way that makes sense for them.
This can vary since each local Goodwill organization uses the system differently, but the flexibility allows them to work in ways that best support their individual processes.
The intake process for local Goodwill organizations can be very lengthy and requires a lot of paperwork. So now that that process is managed electronically, it saves a significant portion of time and resources. Forms can be signed digitally and participants can enter their own information directly into a client portal.
Because CaseWorthy attracts data automatically, reporting is built in. Before, some Goodwill organizations were only collecting data manually using paper forms and Excel, which then required reviewing individual records to get the data that they’re looking for.
Better quality data allows local Goodwill teams to more confidently seek out funding and grant opportunities, and that helps expand services and community impact.
By collecting and storing data in one centralized location, CaseWorthy makes it easier to understand the full client experience and journey. This helps case managers provide better support to their clients, advancing the Goodwill mission of strengthening individuals, families, and communities. CaseWorthy provides flexible reporting options for users of all skill levels. With front-end reporting, individuals can easily access real-time data exactly when they need it.
The ability to build and run reports is a much faster process than with previous systems. And as a result, our data is more readily available when requested from leadership and other stakeholders.
Improved data quality enables more consistent reporting to funders. And so as a result, funders can feel confident that their investment is being used responsibly to drive real measurable impact in the communities that we serve. We’ve changed the way we generate reports, which has given us better visibility into our data and how we collect it. Improved reporting is allowing us to review and validate our own data more effectively. GII can more clearly demonstrate the impact local Goodwill organizations are making in their communities through their training programs, wraparound support services, and successful employment placements.
CaseWorthy’s flexibility makes it easy to adjust goals and track new metrics as priorities evolve. This gives us confidence that we can pursue new goals, accurately measure success as they take shape, and continue advancing in the Goodwill mission of providing people with the support they need to empower themselves and thrive. CaseWorthy has created continuity across our organization, making it easier to define and track metrics that support our mission and our impact.
